Delivery & placement

So your container is in place on the first attempt

Most failed deliveries are not down to the container but to the access or the ground. Here is what needs to be clarified beforehand.

How we set containers down

Which method is possible depends on the access, not on the container.

Truck with loading crane

The most common method. The crane lifts the container over obstacles and sets it down precisely, even offset to the side of the vehicle.

Requirements

  • Space for the truck within reach
  • Around 6 m of clear height above the standing area
  • No overhead lines within the swing range

Roll-off truck / hook lift

The container is rolled off the back. Cheaper than a crane, but it needs a straight approach directly to the standing area.

Requirements

  • Straight approach in line with the standing area
  • About 20 m of manoeuvring length
  • Paved, load-bearing ground

Low loader with forklift

For large quantities, multi-storey complexes or when lifting equipment is on site anyway. We agree the method with your site management.

Requirements

  • Lifting equipment on site or provided by us
  • Sufficient manoeuvring space
  • Briefed personnel on site

What you should prepare

Measure the access

At least 3.5 m passage width and around 20 m of straight approach for a 20 ft container. Please let us know about narrow gates, bollards and overhanging branches in advance.

Prepare the ground

The container must rest level on all four corner castings. Compacted gravel, concrete slabs or strip foundations are sufficient. A container standing at an angle distorts and the doors jam.

Check for obstacles

Overhead lines, canopies, balconies and underground car park ceilings are the most common reasons a delivery fails on the day. A photo of the standing area in advance saves both sides a wasted trip.

Name a contact person

On delivery day, someone must be on site to approve the exact position and sign for the handover. Without approval, the driver will not set the container down.

What happens on delivery day

1

Clarify access

You describe the standing area and approach, we choose the right vehicle and give you the date.

2

Delivery

The driver calls ahead. On site, you guide them to the exact position.

3

Set down and align

The container is set down level and checked for cleanly closing doors.

4

Handover

Joint visual inspection, handover of keys, delivery note. For rentals, we also agree the later collection.

Not sure whether the access is sufficient?

Send us a photo of the standing area and the entrance. We will tell you in advance which vehicle will work.

Have the access checked
